Eleven quick questions drawn from the survey we sent every candidate for Santa Monica City Council. See which three align most closely with you.
The Santa Monica Daily Press sent every City Council candidate a 48-question survey on housing, homelessness, public safety, business, the city's finances, the coast, governance and transit. We boiled it down to the questions where the candidates disagree most. Now it's your turn.
Every candidate for Santa Monica City Council was sent the same 48-question questionnaire by the Santa Monica Daily Press. This quiz uses a handful of those questions. We chose the ones where the candidates split, and dropped questions where nearly everyone gave the same answer (those tell you little about who matches you) or that duplicated another question's divide. Your results compare your answers with theirs.
A few questions are simplified from what candidates saw. Where candidates ranked a list of priorities, you pick one, and you get full credit with a candidate who ranked it first, less for each spot lower. Where candidates answered on a five-point scale, we grouped their answers into the three choices you see. The SAMOSHEL question combines the candidates' answers about the site into keep, move or close.
Your match percentage is the share of credit across the questions both you and the candidate answered. Skipped questions don't count for or against anyone, and candidates must share at least four answered questions with you to appear. Candidate photos and ballot designations are from the City of Santa Monica. This quiz is a starting point, not an endorsement — read our full candidate coverage before you vote.
